Mainly because the Peter Jackson movies changed a pretty major part of the Battle of the Pelennor Fields - in the books, Aragorn’s “ghost army” of the Dead Men of Dunharrow have nothing to do with this battle, and so the men of Gondor and Rohan are left to fight on their own.
